Chapter1: The Real Identity of Yeshua

The Name That Was Changed

Names carry essence. In Hebrew thought, a name isn’t just a label—it speaks of a person’s character, authority, and calling. When the angel told Miriam (Mary) the promised son’s name , he didn’t say Jesus.

“You shall call His name Yeshua, for He shall save His people from their sins”
— Matthew 1:21

The name Yeshua means “Yah saves” or “salvation of YHWH.” It directly connects the Son to the Father’s Name—YHWH, the Eternal One. Every Hebrew that heard that name understood instantly: Salvation is coming from YHWH Himself.

But centuries later, translation—and deliberate alteration—began to cloud that truth. Have you ever wondered why a simple change in a name could hide such profound power?

When Hebrew Scriptures were translated into Greek, Yeshua became Iesous. The Greek language had no “Y” sound, no “sh” sound, and no letter for “ah” at the end. Later, when the Scriptures were rendered into Latin, Iesous became Iesus, and finally in English, the letter J—which didn’t exist until about the 1500s—turned it into Jesus.

The truth: there was no one in the first century who ever called Him Jesus. His mother, His disciples, and His people knew Him only as Yeshua ben Yosef—Yeshua, son of Joseph.

This matters because when you erase a name, you weaken the identity and authority tied to it. That gives the enemy a greater target to attack the name given by the Father in order for humanity to be saved.

Why the Name Matters

Some say, “It’s just a translation.” But in Scripture, names were never treated as casual.

• Abram was changed to Abraham—and the change carried a covenant (Genesis 17:5).
   

• Sarai to Sarah, marking her destiny (Genesis 17:15).
   

• Ya’akov became Yisra’el after wrestling with Elohim (Genesis 32:28).
   

• Even Saul became Paul to mark his transformation.
   

If names were this sacred to YHWH, why would He suddenly allow the holy Name of His Son to be distorted beyond recognition?

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
— Acts 4:12

When Peter spoke to a Hebrew crowd; he said “b’shem Yeshua HaMashiach haNotzri”—in the Name of Yeshua the Anointed One of Nazareth. He wasn’t talking about an English or Greek version; he meant the exact Name given from Heaven. The power was—and still is—in the original revelation.

Power in the True Name

When you pray, it isn’t a formula of syllables that moves Heaven—it’s truth and relationship. The Name is part of that truth. Calling upon Yeshua isn’t superstition; it’s alignment. It’s recognizing the authority tied to YHWH’s salvation.

The prophets foresaw it:

“And it shall come to pass that whoever calls on the Name of YHWH shall be delivered.”
— Joel 2:32

Yeshua embodied that promise. He was the manifestation of YHWH’s deliverance, and His very name declares it. When you say Yeshua, you’re literally declaring “YHWH saves.”

So when centuries of translation replaced Yeshua with Jesus, the sound of that declaration was lost. The message became detached from its source. What happens when truth is repackaged by those in power? The meaning and authority of that name becomes hidden.

This isn’t about rejecting language differences—it’s about restoring the connection to the truth.
